Frequently Asked Questions - Law Enforcement

How do I turn off Wots when I am not working?

When you are not working, open the app and click the menu icon. From there you can click "off-duty".

What do I do if my app is not working correctly?

First of all, make sure internet service and location services are on and active on your phone. Next, make sure you have internet service. On some phones, it may take up to 1 minute for all Wots internet services to fully connect after internet is restored. If you are still having issues, try closing the app and restarting. If none of these work, please email us at tech@wotsinc.com and we will help you out.

Is my location being tracked?

Your location is only tracked when you are marked as "on-duty". When you are marked as off-duty we do not track your location

What is snooze issue?

Some issues, such as parking in zone parking or meter, require that a certain amount of time must pass before a citation can be issued. For issues where this is relevant you will be given the opportunity to "snooze" the issue for a period of time. Keep in mind you may need to confirm the issue in person before you snooze it depending on the laws of your state. When you have snoozed an issue we will pop it back up after the time has elapsed so that an officer can return to confirm the issue and issue a citation as necessary.

Why am I being asked to validate my phone number again?

If you don't use Wots for a prolonged period of time, we request that you still have access to your phone in order to use Wots. This is for security purposes.

Can I contact the person who submitted the issue?

Yes, to contact the person who submitted the issue just scroll to their comments and you will see a phone icon. Click that icon and you can call the person to receive more information.

What can my manager see?

Your management can see anything about your use of Wots that is a fact, but we don't share anything that is an opinion. So management will be able to see things like how long it took to pick up an issue, how long to resolve an issue, what the resolution was and your location if you are on-duty. We ask residents to rate their overall satisfaction with their experience, however, this is not tied to you as an officer but to anonymous reporting that will be done at the district level. We only will do a breakdown if there are at least 5 submissions and different officers involved. For example, we may find that overall satisfaction on parking in crosswalk is a 4 for the district. But if only 1 officer had ever responded to parking in crosswalk, then we would instead say on the reporting "not enough data". Why? We don't want subjective data to ever be tied to an individual police officer. Someone may be unsatisfied because they don't like the law and we wouldn't want that to ever be included in an individual officers performance considerations.

Who can see my rating of the quality of information submitted by the resident?

No one. This information is only used to improve the application. We may in the future use this information to focus on issue types where we aren't collecting good information to ensure that we start to collect better information for law enforcement. For example, we may realize that all the parking in front of hydrant complaints don't show images and it is hard to identify which car is being reported. We could use that information to make sure that when someone submits that type of issue in the future we prompt them to upload an image.
